Ramping up advocacy efforts for responsible exotic pet ownership

As the exotics issue has been heating up in Canada, we have become info central for all things reptile.  Information packages have gone out to the federal and provincial municipal associations across the country with resource materials to help address exotic bylaws at the city level. We have extended each organization an open invitation to connect with us should they need assistance.  PIJAC Canada’s name has been entered as a participant to the Ontario working group being set up to review the provinces laws surrounding exotics.   In addition to staff and Board members hosting this weekend’s ExpoZoo show in Sherbrooke, QC the council is also participating in the Western Canadian Reptile Expo in Alberta.

The media interviews may have slowed down but the work has not.  We have had requests from all over for assistance in answering legislative and species related questions and we continue to be in contact with our colleagues in the U.K. Australia and United States as they are watching closely to see the impact of recent events on the industry and pet families.

As an association, we have always promoted cooperation over confrontation.  So as much as this has been a frustrating experience for many of you, we again applaud your willingness to step forward and set the record straight on responsible exotic care and ownership.  Thank you for keeping us up to date on what is happening in your regions.  You are they ears and eyes of PIJAC Canada.  We will keep you apprised of any further developments as they happen.
