New Publisher Takes the Reins on PETS Magazine

Fresh website and digital strategy, expanded partnerships and wider circulation will broaden the 30-year-old publication’s appeal to readers and advertisers

Moncton, NB – Canada’s go-to magazine for information on pet health and wellness is set for an overhaul designed to make it best in show for the 7.5 million households that own a pet.

Dave and Sharron Dorman, owners of Moncton, NB-based Dorman Sales & Marketing, acquired the respected national publication from Simmons Publishing Ltd., effective July 4, 2016. Providing quality animal health information for over 30 years, PETSMagazine is distributed through veterinary clinics, and boasts a coast-to-coast readership of more than 70,000.

The Dormans are long time pet lovers, sharing their home with Hunter and Shiraz, two Labrador Retrievers. Many times over the past years, they have turned to the pages of PETS Magazine for information that they needed to keep their Labs happy and healthy. Their love of pets, combined with Dave’s comprehensive background in print media marketing and distribution as well as pet photography, along with Sharron’s experience as a pet care technician and groomer, made the PETS acquisition a natural fit for them.

Administration of the magazine will move to New Brunswick, and a new, Ontario-based Advertising Sales Director, Leesa Nacht, has been added to the team. Leesa has over 15 years’ experience in media sales and marketing and has worked on PETS Magazine in the past.  No changes are expected in the magazine’s editorial and art teams.

“Our goal is to give pet owners a one-stop shop for information on keeping their beloved pets happy and healthy,” said David Dorman. “We plan on complementing the high-quality magazine and its proud 30-year history with an expanded digital presence, and we look forward to taking PETS Magazine to the next level.”
