Proposed Changes to Canada’s Pet Food Import Policy

This is a priority message to all companies involved in the importation of Processed (ready to be fed) Pet Food, Treats and Chews, containing animal products and by-products for wholesale and retail sale in Canada.

The Canadian Food inspection Agency has presented us with a draft of a revised pet food import policy and has asked us to circulate it to pet industry businesses for their review and comments.

Who does it affect?
Changes reflected in this policy will affect your business if you are already importing into Canada or are planning on importing into Canada the above-mentioned products.

What should you do?
·         If you import any of these products into Canada, please review the pertinent documents and provide us with your questions and comments;
·         As this policy touches on certain manufacturing requirements that may affect your non-Canadian suppliers.

To receive the documents please email operations@pijaccanada.com

PIJAC Canada and the Pet Food Association of Canada will be meeting with CFIA on October 30th in Ottawa to discuss the draft document. In order to adequately represent you, we ask that you provide us with your question and comments by no later than Friday October 24th.

If this communication hasn’t reached the appropriate individual within your company, please forward it to the appropriate email address and copy us so that we may adjust our list accordingly.

We thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
